What do MRCOOL error codes mean?
It depends on the generation of your system. MRCOOL's code reference lists, for generations 1–3, EC as a refrigerant leak and P6 as too much or too little refrigerant; for fourth-generation systems, EL-01 / E1 is an indoor/outdoor communication malfunction and EC-51 an outdoor EEPROM parameter error. Refrigerant codes need a certified technician — see refrigerant leak repair.
I installed my MRCOOL DIY unit myself — can someone still fix it?
Yes. Independent technicians work on DIY-installed systems, though some charge differently for equipment they didn't install. Tell them it's a DIY unit, the generation and the code. Communication errors on DIY systems often trace to the line-set or cable connections, which a technician can test. Our Florida mini-split repair line routes your call to a technician who serves your ZIP code.
MRCOOL warranty
MRCOOL's limited warranty applies only to systems installed by a state-certified or licensed HVAC contractor — except DIY-series units, which don't require one. Register through MRCOOL warranty registration. We're not affiliated with MRCOOL.
Other common MRCOOL problems
The same Florida issues as any ductless system: drain leaks, mold and musty smells, and weak cooling on hot afternoons.
